Andrea Russell

Andrea’s passion for movement began with training in various dance styles throughout middle and high school. Although her involvement with dance declined during college, her discovery of yoga in 2010, and a consistent yoga practice in 2012, soon filled that void. Andrea felt invigorated by the bodily awareness, creativity, and playfulness of yoga that she had experienced in dance, as well as by the added benefits of inner peace and overall well-being. Fascinated by the inner and outer workings of the body, she supplemented her yoga practice with kinesiology and dance classes at The College of William and Mary (W&M). Upon graduating with her BA in Hispanic Studies, she also completed her 200 hour teacher training certification under the guidance of Shannon Harty, E-RYT 500 at GetDOWNDog Yoga in Williamsburg, VA. Drawing on Shannon’s Baptiste-inspired style of teaching, Andrea seeks to offer yoga classes that are accessible and transformative for students of all levels. She enjoys drawing connections between lessons on the mat and lessons in life, as well as connections between herself and her fellow yogis.
