Jared has 20 years of experience in contemplative practice. He first found the path in 1996 with the study and practice of Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong, along with Taoist arts of Ba Gua, Xing Yi, and healing meditation. Later, through Wu Shen Tao Martial Arts Center in Washington, DC, he studied under Masters Liu Xiao Ling and Paul Ramos, focusing on the Chen and Yang styles of Tai Chi Chuan. He began his study and practice of vipassana meditation, first in the tradition of Burmese teacher S.N. Goenka, and later in the Theravada tradition of vipassana meditation, as taught by the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. At JMU, he has been a mindfulness meditation teacher for the Madison Meditates program for six years, and he has taught courses in Contemplative Writing and Contemplative Wisdom Traditions. He is a member of the Association for Contemplative Mind in Higher Education.
